They don't like to be reminded that they used to (and still do) discriminate based on the accidental circumstances of a persons birth.

The emperor is nekkid.

Eh, there's still a lot of discrimination in Japan.

$1:
An employee at a large, well-known Japanese company, who works in personnel and has direct knowledge of its hiring practices, said the company actively screens out burakumin job seekers.

“If we suspect that an applicant is a burakumin, we always do a background check to find out,” she said. She agreed to discuss the practice only on condition that neither she nor her company be identified.

Japan definitely IS still discriminating against those with Burakumin ancestors. I think it's completely unfair, it isn't their fault their ancestors did the dirty work. Makes me glad to live in Canada that's for sure.

It sounds like the problem is with Japanese society, not with Google. Maybe Japan should be more inwardly focused instead of trying to find a scapegoat. If companies in Japan are still scanning for ancestors of these people (who are Japanese, not foreigners), then Japan has some serious internal issues to work through.
