Just more proof that Carol James simply is incapable of understanding the free market. I'm sure ever her union automitons will question her brave new 5 year plan.

Seems to me that 'somebody' posted quite a while ago that 'as the revenue from tobacco sales went down, the price of booze would be rising to cover the shortfall'! ROTFL ROTFL

Just another good reason to buy your beer in 24-packs instead of 6-packs. And what brand of beer costs $12 for a 6-pack in the first place? Even a 6-pack of king-cans doesn't cost $12 in Ontario.

Here in Edmonton, it $13-$17 for six-pack depending on what you want.

This does not make sense to me. If the NDP get support from the work class. Why rise taxes on beer. That would hurt they core support.

They take their coin wherever they can find it.
When I worked in BC the union was giving a portion of our dues to the NDP.
We voted that out but they fought it tooth and nail.

On the bright side,BCers near the border will just drive here to Alberta like they allways do for booze and groceries and gas, just more so if the price go's up.

A case of blue here is $20.95

Yeah, but you Albertan-clowns call a 12-pack a "case". In Ontario, a "case" is a 24-pack and a 12-pack is called a "poverty pack". A case of Blue (24) costs $32.50 in Ontario.

Ontario Brewer's Retail = government distribution monopoly = fuck-the-consumer-in-the-ass. Lucky Lager and the discount brands are more like $24/case in Ontario, but the brand names are around $33/case. We also get arsed on cans, which cost more than bottles thanks to Bob Rae and his "environmental tax" on cans, which was really just a thinly-veiled tariff on American imports.

Consider it a carbon tax for alcohol.

It's true that we have a 10¢ consigne on the bottles and taxes are added but it gets to about 25-27$. And that's because we have a floor price to "protect" the corner stores else it would be lower. The brand beers are almost always on discount at the lowest price permitted: ~20.50$. But we are in Quebec... :P

I drink "poor's beer" these days: 3.50$ for a 40oz of 10%, ~ the same quantity of alcohol than 7.5 beers.
