Negotiating with terrorists gives them a legitimacy which they do not deserve.

The taliban is not the same as Al-qaeda. He is comparing domestic funadmentalist islamic movement to international terrorists.

I'm sure the NATO soldiers who come under fire in Afghanistan care about that distinction.

It's the same reason we are not in Darfur. This catch-all type thinking is only making the problem larger and unmanageable.

Doesn't mean the Taliban aren't made from the same douchebags that make up AQ.

We're not in Darfur for many reasons:

The Americans/Brits don't have the support to invade another country.

Sudan doesn't actually want us (no shit)

The rest of NATO doesn't care, because it doesn't cause that big of a refugee problem like Bosnia did, right in their backyard.

The African Union wants to try things out on their own...

and finally the United Nations is a corrupt piece of shit.

Well do we treat muggers the same as murders? We are not going to change Afghanistan but it will change us. We can't be a world cop. We need to pick our battle like stopping Pakistan from become a nuclear Frankenstein.

We'd also have to end up shooting PLA 'advisors'.

And I forgot China with their arms deals and such...

No, of course we don't treat murders like muggers, but pretending that the Taliban aren't murderers like their AQ counterparts, I bet there will be many thousands who would disagree with you

Just curious, how can we do that? Invade them?

The negotiation with the taliban can only be done by the Afghgans themselves. If Obama, the Hildabeast or even the peanut farmer think they can solve this, they need only look at the years they wasted in the middle east for a reminder.

NATO can kill every talioban they find but it's ultimately the Afghans who must win their hearts and minds.

I agree Rain but asking them to deal withy the Taliban is asking a battered spouse to stand up to her abuser. Sure its the right thing to do but when they have to live together when all is said and done it make it a hard deal to enforce.

@commanderkai Did we invade Russia in 1990 when they sold their nukes on the black market? All we can do it stop it before it happens by keeping them stable, once humpty dumpty falls there is no way to put him back together again.

We're going to have to think up a new Taliban song for Obama Belafonte.
