Proculation Proculation:

Canada does not have term limits and the US did not have term limits until the 22nd amendment to the constitution in 1951. FDR was the last president to ever serve more then 2 terms, hardly a socialist.

At best this referendum puts them on an even footing with our system even if we have far less corruption.

True, though given Chavez' dictatorial leanings, this may not be a good development. But as always, time will tell.

Everybody needs to go through their phases. Perhaps we will get lucky and he'll drop dead from a heart attack next week. Not to draw analogies that will get me attacked again but are their elections any less corrupt then Iraq and Afghanistan?

What if their society is actually more peaceful with one man running the show rather then many dictators vying for power?

I don't like Chavez, but if this is what the people want then power to them. I'm just glad I don't live there.

Yeah.. it's probably a good thing.
His opposition will probably like it too, if they know what's good for them

The Conservative can't read and understand english either. What a surprise.

Read what I wrote. I don't have a soft spot for him. He is a product of their system and probably no different then any number of his opponents. I just pointed out that term limits and the lack thereof aren't socialist as our system has no term limits.

Having access to unlimited time in office doesn't mean it's a totalitarian state but it sure is an element for a way to it. And since Chavez is a socialist...

Logical fallacy. A lot of Americans decry Canada as Socialist and we have no set term limits.

Can they logically assume we are no better then Venezuela?

Here we go again, another Robert Mugabe.

Rhodesia, oops, I mean Zimbabwe is a democracy that elects it's president with no term limits about every 4 years and look how well that's worked out for them. By using voter fraud and destroying all opposition, Mugabe's been kept in office for 29 years and is still going strong.

Just because you have elections doesn't mean you have a democracy. Stalin got elected numerous times, during his reign, so that must mean the USSR was a democracy. XD

All this does is give Hugo, the right to keep power by any means he sees fit, without the hinderance of having to step down and let an underling take over, while he still runs the country as dictator. Unlike Putin.
