hah...France...France can do something once to help out their allies and NATO?!?!

Europe should do more, perhaps maybe not so much the UK and Germany, but like France and other places which have little or no troops in Afghanistan should do more to support the NATO and ISAF effort. We already sent 200+ additional troops. Before we had 2500 and now we have 2700 in Afghanistan. DO MORE OUR EUROPEAN ALLIES PLEASE!

NATO can get off it's sanctamonious ass and send the troops they already have hiding in the safe zone to do their jobs.

It's nice to see 108 Canadians have died while France and Co. have hidden them selves in the so called safe zone. Why doesn't France commit some foreign legion brigades? I thought NATO was supposed to be committed to this war? Enough Canadians have died, its time for the other countries to carry some of the load.

They'd just surrender or collaborate.

The Nato's chief's job is to ask for more, isn't it. Every government agency needs more money. There are 44,000 troops in Afganistan and the place isn't going to be peaceful in the next generation.

I understand if the Russians had been serious about conquering Afghanistan in the '80's they would have needed 800,000 troops to stamp out the resistance. so do we commit the full military resources of NATO to Afghanistan or continue to do a half job where 3 of the nations of NATO do all the work, and all the other nations ride on our coattails?

The mission is a complete failure. It's time for the Americans to clean up the mess they made by themselves. Those Europeans made the right choice in not getting any further involved than they already are.

Dude, it wasn't only the Americans that created that mess, we need to take ownership for our part and stay until the job is done, and no, NATO is supposed to be a mutual defence pact, the US was attacked on 9/11, NATO responded, we've occupied Afghanistan for almost 8 years, we need to finish what has been started, we need to show these people that the west is not a bunch of dogs that occupy these nations under the guise of liberation and then abandon those same nations when it appears that it may be a harder fight than we thought. Those European nations you speak of essentially turned their backs on their allies during a dire time and I hope that this will not be forgotten.

If we all leave that place will go to hell in a hand basket. We need to stay until out job there is done. Whenever that is, whether that is tomorrow or 10 years from now.

True. There were also the Soviets and before them the British. Canada had no role in making Afghanistan the mess it is, though.

Read up on the North Atlantic Treaty: Canada was under no obligation to go to Afghanistan.

"Under the guise of liberation" being the operative words there - all a load of dishonest baloney which we should have no part in.

Like Canada, they were under no obligation whatsoever regarding Afghanistan, but unlike us they had the backbone not to be bullied any further into the quagmire by the Yanks than they were.

Good luck with that. Canadians clearly won't support ten more years of this. Enough money and lives have been wasted already.

Depends on who you talk to Streaker. In my experience, the more a person knows about what is actually happening over there, the more likely they are to support what we are doing. Not all but most.
