http://www.icbc.com/licensing/lic_renew ... enh_dl.asp

They even have a RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) chip embedded in the EDL (Enhanced Driver's Licence) WOOOT!! One step away from having it physically embedded into your arm or leg, under the skin so you can be tracked by satellite.

Big Brother at it's best....

I agree. Does anyone really want to have their privacy invaded by being tracked by a chip in a license, credit card or cell phone. Too make matters worse, do you really want the criminal element accessing that chip infomration with modified electronics?

Holy crap, the paranoia is awfully thick here. What information do you think is going to be on it?

The RFID technology they’re considering can't be tracked by satellite. It's only readable within a few feet. If it makes crossing the border easier, great.

Give me a break! I can disable a cell phone from 30 metres away. The government is also telling companies to put the GPS technology into cellphones. If GPS technology can easily be put into a cellphone chip then it can be put into a card chip as well.

RFID chips don't have batteries and must rely on power sent to them, hence the short range. Besides.. most of Team Tinfoil will be running there's through a microwave or can't get drivers licences because of outstanding Skytrain tickets.

If it gets me through the border in less than an hour, they can tattoo my ass.

ugh...i hate it, it looks somewhat more crowded on the front. i dont see why your height and weight needs to be one the front, why not on the back where its always been...

How can you disable a celphone from 30 meters away? I would love to have a tool like that.

I know how to take one out at 100 meters....if the wind is just right.

I've wondered since I have a BC license what my weight has to do with anything... It's not really accurate...

Other than that, it has been mentioned here it would get you through the border easier... Don't ya need a passport for that?
I still have to fill out paperwork and have a mugshot and fingerprints done every 3 months... Costs me and additional 20 minutes for each family member...

I love how know one realizes this RFID can easily be used to track someone. Think about it, you pass by a cell tower what every 5 mins?. We can already tell where you are within 10 meters, without the use of any RFID. RFID would make it even easier.
