I'm sure you can find someone out there willing to accept the waste for cash. Toronto ships its garbage to Michigan.

Nuclear power is one of the cleanest sources of electicity out there. I would be all for it being more widely used here in Canada. Its defnitely better then coal and more reliable then wind or solar.
The biggest drawback to it is its startup cost but once that is absorbed then your doing pretty well for yourself.

You really have no clue how the companies get rid of spent rods do you? You think they're just going to come dump them in your backyard or the pool.

2Cdo 2Cdo: You really have no clue how the companies get rid of spent rods do you? You think they're just going to come dump them in your backyard or the pool. Sweden has an "end storage"(slutförvar) built where the nuclear waste is supposed to be stored for generations to come. In other words, it's supposed to be stored there untill it is no longer radioactive, in 250,000, or so, years. There is three places in Europe which are suitable for "end storage" and two of those places are in Sweden. Where's all of europes nuclear waste going to go? What are they going to do with it? Send it out to space? Where?

Nothing can be guaranteed. A major shift in the foundation and Sweden could become uninhabitable. Becaus we are talking about such a long time span, the uncertanties and the risks become much greater than that we today would be able to predict. I'd protect, with my life, Sweden from becoming Europes radioactive waste dump. I don't care if this wouldn't happen in my life time or that of my children, Sweden is a beautiful country with a beautiful fauna and flora of life and I'll never accept it.
