What????

They stopped playing O Canada as "part of a package of reforms designed to make the school feel more inclusive and to allow the school to run more smoothly."

I'd like an explanation as to how, exactly, bringing everyone together to stand for the National Anthem doesn't make everyone feel included.

I got the impression they did it because some parent supposidly bitched about it.

Yup, some 'unknown' parent, whose name isn't being disclosed.

On a better note:

i sent an email to the Minister, and actually got something
that looked like an answer !

Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXX:

Thanks for sharing your views with me.

As you may have heard on the news, I have clearly let schools know that I want, and expect, the anthem to be played in our schools. While we are a nation that values diversity of religious views, political views, and cultural ideals, those freedoms cannot be separated from respect for the nation and symbols that safeguard those freedoms.

I have let our educators know of my desire to see children have the opportunity to know and share in the national anthem, and of my willingness to make necessary changes in policy to ensure this happens.

Kelly

Subject: Schools should have to play O Canada

To: Kelly Lamrock, Minister of Education

Dear Mr. Minister,

I urge you to re-examine the rules regarding playing the National Anthem in New Brunswick schools.

My family immigrated to Canada in 1967.

I went to elementary school in New Brunswick.
I consider the playing of the National Anthem to be extremely important in the development of our young people.

It has become even more important these days, due to the diversity of everything else; religion, culture, etc.
we need to provide something that unites our students and our people.

I hope you will reach a decision that will unite Canadians, and help instill a pride of being Canadian in our young people.

Change the rules; require all schools in N.B. to play the National Anthem everyday.

Thank you for your time,

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXX

I suggest we bomb his inbox over the weekend

This is silly. We didn't sing the national anthem in schoool every goddam day 40 years ago.
If they stop singing it at school assemblies, then we have grounds to bitch.
