That section of the bridge is fenced off but perfect for a homeless enclave. In the very early morning, there's always a number of homeless folks carrying aluminum siding or whatever to feed the 2 metal recyclers shops set up only a block away. That whole area is a hole.

Bridgeview isnt that bad.
Maybe if Surrey recognized a homeless problem and actually built a shelter that was appropriate instead of that joke of the one on King George and 64th there wouldnt need to be fires to keep folks warm at night.
But so I have been told at numerous steering committee meetings, as well as the RCMP...there isnt a problem...go figure

You still have wooden bridges out there?
Was it one like this?

I can't say what the conditions of the existing situation are but the enclave that was ready for these homeless under the brdge looked good enough that I thought about kissing Nevada away and living there instead.

then I got dibs.
seriously, it was a fenced off perimiter where police are already non-existant. Ever morning I see a half dozen bicycle scavengers out with car axels or aluminum siding, waiting for the recyclers to open. They must have come from somewhere and they probably needed a fire to keep warm. It was typical shoddy police work that didn't find where they were nesting.

Oh I know the area, but in defense of the police...they are under funded and staffed for a land mass of Surrey...no offense to the RCMP but Surrey needs their own police force. There is more important things going on, than rounding up homeless. The feds need to step up and put more man power out there.

I agree that Surrey needs to grow up and have it's own police force. I think that the RCMP should get out of the police buiness altogether, but that's another issue.

The RCMP are not a single municipal police force. They are a frightening state police force. It made sense when Surrey was a hick town but we're becomming the largest part of the GVRD and we need to stop being so cheap.

Totally agree with that. A municipal force is overdue by many years...I dont know what can be done, but I think the folks of Surrey really need to put some pressure on local government. I do have to say I have worked with many of the RCMP in that area and they are a good bunch, but I feel that local people on the force would be better and understand the dynamics of Surrey as opposed to others from across the country. But that is just my opinion.

You might want to mention that to the folks in the area who felt that they never got effective police responce during the gas station murders.
