This looks like this might be our hardest winter yet...

Sapper, ain't it true that winters are supposed to be quieter?

Yes, they are changing tactics. The changes always work 3 or 4 times then we find a way to adapt and they spend the next couple of months trying new things.

In the past when the cold weather came in the violence died down, since no one wanted to fight in the bitter cold. Supply was also an issue, the Taliban had funding issues since most of the cash they made during the poppy harvest had been spent in the summer. Recently it seems they have found a way around this. ISAF also was on the roads less often in the winter months due to the lack of activity.

Im thinking this will die down by the end of Jan, Canada is going to push on them harder and the Taliban will have to resort back to using pressure cookers and saw blades to make IEDs.

The Americans will start pouring into the area around that time as well, the Taliban will be overwhelmed and will have to go deeper into hiding. They will end up having to be content with small skirmishes and the odd IED attack. Hopefully they will be off balance long enough for the Afghan Government make good on some promises they have been making.

Hopefully, mind, the US with its baggage that it will bring, may attract greater attention and efforts by the Taliban.
