Well considering the present state of the Liberal party, this seems liek it can only be good news (how could it prossibly be worse?). Dion, for better or worse, finally had the Liberal party stand up to the Conservatives, Ignatieff was at a distance from the coalition talk the whole time, he didn't have to be the leader of it at any time, and now Dion gets to walk off with all the stink of it and Ignatief can get on with leading the Liberals. What's more, if he's concilliatory towards the Conservatives, and tries to work with them, that might soften his image a bit.
