Well I can't say I like that. If there had been someone other then Dion in the Liberal chair I may have taken a second look at them after this news.

Didn't take Harper long to blow the Liberal surplus, did it?

How? Does Dion have a time machine? Was he going to go back in time to last Aug to post a deficit?

Typical cons whining. When their guy posts a deficit, instead of holding him accountable they simply shift all blame to the Liberals (and in this case hypothetically) stating that the Libs would have done worse so its really not the cons fault.

How do you figure? His number one campaign promise was a new tax...

While I still hold the view that in rough economic times it's acceptable to run deficits, and so I can't fault the Conservative government for doing so, it'll be nice to see them raked over the coals for doing the right thing as previous Liberal and NDP government federally and provicially were in other tough times.

Now I guess we all know why Harper was in such a rush for an election. With news like this, how long would he be able to say he is fiscally responsible?

I'm laughing because I remember when a bunch of the Liberals were saying that it would happen, but the Conservatives blew it off as "paranoia and scare tactics".

Most of that was increased transfer payments to provinces.

But with the dollar tanking, that blow will be softened somewhat. Sucky for those of us whose jobs aren't directly dependent on trade, but this is so much bigger than that $50 eBay purchase suddenly becoming $60 that I'm not too sad to see a retreat...

Agreed. Just lucky I purchased my new (American made) plasma cutter before the dollar tanked.
