How come it is only the west that is feeling this crunch, Petro Canada and Husky have service stations in the east, yet they have fuel. I work in the industry and it is becoming a real pain in the ass every morning I have to get a list of who has fuel in Calgary. Very annoying.

There are 7 refineries in the West pruducing a total of 600,000 barrels per day. The Husky one in Prince George proudces a whopping 13,000 barrels so almost does not count. Suncor has had problems since August and may not be back until December. Petro Can had a cracker fail in August causing their gas stations to run out. Then they shut down in September for two months too convert the refinery over to 100% synthetic crude from Fort Mac. Esso is in a one month maintenance and are allocating fuel. Co-op had an unsheduled breakdown for 2 weeks. Chevron lost a cat unit and will be down for a month.

That is a lot of missing fuel for what is left to take up the slack. Consequently there are outages and those with fuel are rationing it to so they are not out for hours on end.

Next all the pipelines carry product out of the area. There is no pipeline bringing product in. Ontario can have fuel from the West, the US or Europe. That is why the West is short and the east has fuel.

I guess it make sense, I gotta wondfer why it coincides with oil prices as well, we start to see a decrease in price and then theres a shortage. Seems fishy to me

Nothing fishy, the macs here has been out of gas most of the summer,With more refineries down now it will just get worse.
