I really don't like the media black out. Since usually the elections are over by the time it hits Manitoba I fail to see what these 'blackout' will truly accomplish.

It’s the only way Quebec and Ontario can make the west feel relevant during an election. The die is cast by the time it hits the Muskokas.

I think the blackout is as effective as a locked door is as effective in keeping an honest person honest. If you really want to break in you can but it's not like the door is wide open. If every newspaper and media outlet was posting the results as they came in it would have a detrimental effect. In this way the dimmers are on so it's not a glaring distraction besides most already know who they are voting for before they cast. I don't think the blackout should change because it's only for a few hours and a simple regulation from letting the media from making a circus. They still can, but after it is over not during.

Except this isn't about Quebec and Ontario, it's about Atlantic Canada. The polls all close at the same time in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, and only 30 minutes later in BC. 9:30 ET, 8:30 Central, 7:30 MT, 7:00 PT.

Who out West really cares about the results from Atlantic Canada? I sure don't.

Another example (right up there with vote trading and strategic voting) of people trying to trick themselves into believing their vote is, or should be, more significant than it really is.

If someone from BC is that worried about their vote not making an impact, they can move to Quebec and cast a vote that makes precisely as little impact, but counted at an earlier time.

If it really is a big deal, why doesn't elections Canada just wait until tomorrow to release the results all at once?

I'm watching Recount on HBO right now...

I wonder how the Quebec fiasco will effect the election.

they say that people will go with the party thats leading .. so if a party is doing well in the east it effects how the west..esp BC votes.. some people just go with the one that looks like it might win.. I think the black out was the request of the people in BC awhile back.. not 100% sure though..
