Ford hired a peck and bushel full of Toyota engineers several years back and they are credited for helping Ford design the Fusion, Edge and other models that have had the J.D. Power people raise their status regarding initial quality.

What the NA companies need to get their heads around is Toyota's corporate/manufacturing culture. My oldest son took a course in the final year of his mechanical engineering program on manufacturing science. The entire course was based on the Toyota method.

Toyota continues to show the way even as the car market plunges.

Canada: Auto sales in Canada rose 1.7% year-over-year in September as a 14% increase for Toyota vehicles helped outweigh declines at General Motors and Ford. The monthly increase, the second in five months, was buoyed by car sales, which climbed 5.1%. Light truck sales fell 2.2%.

those god damn crappy Corollas that seem to be filling the streets

I noticed how American sales were suspiciously left off - that's to be expected by the chronically unaware.

In September Toyota dropped 30% (compared to Honda's 24% and GM's 16), so actually, Toyota (and they've even scaled back production), isn't "showing" the way, it's actually in the same mess as the other auto manufactures.

And there may be some soulless, boring Corollas "filling the streets" but they'll be dwarfed by Canada's top selling car (for the 1st 1/2), the Civic.
