I dont consider myself a very political poster, I come in every now and again, but I tend to bow out since some poster are way too partisan for my liking. Its not just this post Derb its the sum of your posts. The same statement could be said for: Rev and Streaker with the NPD, along with Redneck, ManifestDestiny and BartSimpson with the Cons. I admit that I tend to shrug off the stupid things the Cons do, more often when the Libs pull a boner, but I try to keep an open mind for the most part

Yet in the sum of my posts I hold the Libs to the same standard as the Cons. When I defend my party I make it clear why I do so and it's issue based. You see very little of that on the flip side of the coin.
Take the military issue. I missed most of the thread last night what with sleeping and work but it highlighted exactly the hypocracy. Dion was roasted because he said he wouldn't rule out military cuts. The same people screaming about how the Liberals are such military hating wankers are the same people giving Harper a free pass when Harper has done next to nothing but continue Martins work. Hell he might even be worse since he was the one who dropped war funding from what 85% to 30% meaning that even if he raised the DND budget he forced them to pay a greater % of the war costs out of the general budget. Christ, they were blaiming the Liberals for the navy running out of gas despite the fact that they ran short because the DND was forced to divert funds to fight the war.
Yet Harper gets praised and the Liberals vilified. The way Dion has been insulted time and again by the military and tiold point blank that he can expect no voting support from them its not only understandable but reasonable to expect him to decide that his administration will fund other departments better.
SigPig was crying about the Libs sending us to war ill-equiped when the truth was Chretien was almost forced out of hand by Hillier and if the cons had their way we'd have gone to Iraq. No matter course of action Chretien took he was dmaned. He does exactly what the military wants and gets accused of sending the troops in ill-equiped. Think anybody was going to accept him not sending the troops if he said "we need more time to rebuild and re-equip".
Then there is the issue about lack of manpower which was also blamed on the Liberals. Harpers been in power for almost 3 years running all those recruiting posters yet over the last 2 years there have been many articles written about the difficulty in the military attracting applicants. Why? We got a conservative govt who is apparently splurging left and right on the forces yet the lack of recruitment
is still blamed on the Liberals. All of this because Dion said
he won't rule out cuts if an economic disaster hits Canada. Harper cancels the JSS project, the SAR replacement program and breaks his own election promise concerning military icebreakers and the worst criticism from the con side of things was "I don't like this". Dion makes the kind of statement any politicial would make and we get a 20 page thread of insults against the Libs.
I gotta say that when I came to this forum 3+ years ago I was pretty gung-ho about pouring more money into the military including it being the only reason I would support deficit spending. Slowly but surely I have had my resolve drained away until I feel that if the military is going to continually shoot itself in the foot regarding political support then it deserves what it gets and my taxes shouldl go elsewhere.
(now this is a diatribe!)
