I'll bet if this poor fellow was known to have a 'Picasso' or 'Tommy Thompson' hanging on his wall.... Oh yah. He didn't have a wall to hang them on anyway! It would be interesting to see what 'those who promote more funding for culture' have to say about this. But of course, 'they' won't show their faces around here!

no, I blame the 30 other Canuks in the Emergency room with a 'sore finger' or a cough.

If you aren't bleeding or carried in, then you have no business being in an ER!!

Well, if he had had to pay first, he would have been kicked out anyway...

And no, I am not saying that this is fine. Of course it isn't, it is ridiculous.

Yet, I live in a small town, and my friends son has been admitted with a bad allergic reaction 3 times in the past 2 weeks. NO waiting at all. I guess living in the big city isn't always that great...

It happens down here too man. As soon as the doctor offices close, the ER's start filling up with everyone that has a papercut or splinter in their pinkie. We carried my son to the ER once in the middle of the night when he was throwing up blood. Took 5 hours to be seen. Of course, most of the ones in line probably were not paying customers either. I think one or two actually spoke English.

Poor bugger was homeless too. I read some other reports of this and they were saying he was a routine visitor. Still the staff have some explaining to do.

Universal, not free. Of course there are those who will use this tragedy to downgrade the idea of universal health care. What does bart think should be done?

He would have been treated. They would have a lawsuit if someone died without being treated in the waiting room. He would have be charged an assload, but he wouldn't have died.

$1:
He says homeless people often seek shelter in the hospital emergency room and the man was a regular.
Sounds like the mistake they made was letting people hang out in the emergency room without an emergency - if the guy was a regular, he's simply not going to get their full attention every time he comes in.

For all we know, he just went to the ER and had a heart attack in his sleep - if they're used to having homeless people camp out in the waiting room, it'd be some time before they'd notice.

True. Which is why this isn't a private vs. public thing.

It isn't. He should have been taken care of. He wasn't. It is a shame, but... if you use the ER as shelter... wrong...
