"According to the Heritage presentation, 1970s- and 1980s-era initiatives geared toward "celebrating differences" and "accommodation" should now promote "rights and responsibilities" and the "Canadian identity." And compared with earlier problems such as "prejudice" and "systemic discrimination," a "clash of cultures" is highlighted as a major issue faced by immigrants today."

Sounds reasonable to me.

The Cons were happy to continue it. Malrouney didn't exactly do anything to alleviate this situation. He aggravated it. And yes, now we do have some immigrants who are assholes, (like the Somalian man i bough a shwarma from on friday who ranted about how its "the jews fault"). However the vast majority hyphenated or not has done well to integrate into society quite well.

I don't give 2 shits, the liberals made the big turd on the carpet and they need their noses rubbed in it.

Canada does not need to be a multi cultural society. Too many cultures under one roof isn't such a great idea. However we are undeniably a multi-colored society. That we cannot deny or change at this point.

Hyphenating isn't specifically a Canadian or British only concept. The USA has African-Americans who have been there even before most white Americans's forefathers. It has not made life any easier for them in the fact that they share the same culture as the white Americans. They are still "hyphenated". And they are still discriminated against.

It's not the hyphenation, or the partisan political aspect of this that has social unrest. Its sheer prejudice. That is something you cannot change overnight by removing a hyphen.
