I always like that Gimli Glider story. Deserves a kick in the pants for taking off without enough fuel, but that was a great display of basic stick and rudder skills once the stuff hit the fan!

The pilot actually credited his ability to fly the thing deadstick to his Air Cadet glider training. Amazing that those basic unpowerd flight skills learned as a teenager were still useful many years later.

My father in law was on that flight.
