This IS pretty neat. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for further developments.

On a side note, I'd love a camera that takes millions of pictures a second. Of course, weighing that much, I wouldn't be able to take it anywhere.

Its kinda cool I guess. if they could find the "dark matter" and other particles It could be used for the propulsion of space craft and stuff

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
I don't care.

If a black hole opens, we'lla ll eb goen IMMEDIATELY. i'm sure it would be painless, death so quick.

Nope. Any black hole this thing makes will evaporate infinitesimally quickly. A 1kg black hole will evaporate in 8.4x10^-17 seconds, and anthing it can create will be far less massive than that. Black holes evaporate faster as they become less massive. It wouldn't have time to fall against the machine, let alone start gobbling up the earth.

Remember that a black hole isn't some infinitely powerful vacuum. It's just a mass like anything else, albeit one with such density that it's smaller than its event horizon. A 1kg mass doesn't have any noticeable pull on you, so neither will a 1kg black hole.

I wonder if they'll find all my missing socks and underwear that get lost between the washer and taking them out of the dryer. ROTFL
Seriously this looks like a neat experiment. :D

You can watch it live from the Atlas project web cams.
http://atlas.ch/webcams.html

The scale of this thing is huge.
Take a walk through the virtual tour. It's amazing, even if it's just going to open up a portal into another dimension filled with monsters. :D
Duke Nukem to the red phone please.

Lack of energy. We believe the energy needed to create a stable micro black hole is far greater than the LHD is capable of producing.

Nope. As you approach the event horizon of a black hole, time slows down. It slows down so much the closer you get, you probably would never experience entering the black hole.

Wouldn't hurt a bit. :)

I remember in grad school the joke was: A biology experiment costs $100 and lasts 3 years. A physics experiment costs $100 000 000 and lasts 3 nanoseconds. This is really cool. Let her rip.

Didn't they hang Tom Horn in 1901, in Wyoming.
