"The companies are planning to search for oil and gas in the Chukchi Sea off the northwestern coast of Alaska. The new wildlife service regulations mean it will be OK legally if "small numbers" of polar bears or Pacific walruses are incidentally harmed by their activities over the next five years."
Wow.
"The seven companies will be required to map out the locations of polar bear dens, train their employees about the bears' habits and take other measures to minimize clashes with them." These things had better get done. I don't want to sound like some sort of hippy, but the whole damn ecosystem is connected like a puzzle, lose one piece and its never the same again.
