Interesting paper. It documents effects of climate change right now (as opposed to say model predicitons over the next century). Not surprisingly, it appears to be over mtbr's head. I have a feeling "Dick and Jane" might be over mtbr's head.

Meanwhile, while the AGW oppoennets are still waffling between no global warming/yes global warming but we're not causing it/yes we're causing but whatever positions, the science conintues and the evidence mounts.

Notably, the report is not specifically about climate change, but wiht the environmetnal picture in Africa writ large, including such things as deforestation, overgrazineg, urbanization, etc. Although the Kilimajaro glacier is probably the highlight, given that is has retreated by about 82% since 1912. Deforestation tends to dwarf any climate change impacts in much of Africa, becasue the effects of deforestation are more immediate and more severe. In teh case of Kilimanjaro, deforestation increased albedo (radiation reflected from the surface of the earth) whihc created a warmer micro-climate in the area.

However, the Kilimanjaro galcial retreat conincides with glacial retreats throughout the tropics. There's a good article on tropical glacial retreat here: http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=157
