I don't agree with China's politics in any way shape or form, but how is this different from countries warning British soccer hooligans to behave at the World Cup or stay home?

I agree, this isn't an issue, but how they said it makes it sound like China has no crime issues at all, and its all the foreigner's fault, this being a good example

I have no idea how many foreigners who has enough money to buy a Olympic ticket and a Visa AND airplane tickets will be sleeping outside in a foreign city.

Sound like this loosely translates into "Please do not do anything to help remind Chinese citizens what totalitarian misfits we are."

So much for the more open China that was promised because of the games.

I, for one, will not watch the games. But I also hope that the US and Canada post more medals than the Chinese. What better way to slap them in the face then to dominate the games?

I don't know--all anyone does these days is bitch adn moan about the Olympics anyways. The athletes are a sideshow. I'd say the Olympics are going the way of the UN.

I'm sure you're familiar with the "golden goose" concept. I'm sure you also have free internet access so you can look it up, unlike the majority of the Chinese people.

The Chinese government promised specific freedoms as conditions of their getting the games and now they are backing away from that deal. That's definately not an honorable position.

Nor is it a surprising one.

They are good at making promises and then backing out.

Our company built a plant in Shanghi to service the Chinese market in food packaging. Once the plant was built and operational, the government informed them that they were required to export everything made and could not sell domesticly.

They had to close a plant in New Zealand to make up for it.

Hardly. The cost for tickets to Olympic events are in the hundreds of DOLLARS (not RMB) each, and that's if you win a lottery for the right to purchase one. My friend's sister tried to buy one for the opening ceremony...$500 for a crappy seat. Most Chinese will not be able to afford to go.

That's the way it usually is. Mostly the rich and powerful locals get tickets while the rest go to tourists who can afford it.
