I would hate to be a nurse. Being treated with disrespect and wiping people's asses all day sounds like fun. I might as well be a cop.

There's plenty of dosage systems that can eliminate most or all of the errors. Most errors occur from improper charting and a lacking continuity of care. Staff shortages can create problems too.

lily lily:
Being dissatisfied with your job and having poor relations with your co-workers and the doctors is no excuse to give a patient the wrong meds.

These nurses are highly trained professionals. It's time they acted like it.

And you never make mistakes in stressful situations? They're human beings, lily, and so are you.

Some mistakes are costlier than others, hurley.

It's not the mistakes I'm commenting on though... it's the "excuses" given.

There's a difference between reasons and excuses. These are the former, not the latter.

If we want a medical system with a low error rate, we've got to be prepared to pay for the necessary levels of staffing, support, and job security.

If those mistakes can be attributed to the poor staffing created by Klein's cutbacks, or his lack of restraint on our explosive growth, then yea, they're his fault.

Some of the technology available to eliminate medication errors are held up by those very same people who make the errors. They don't want to change and can make a big enough fuss that it halts the progress. I've seen it happen with this very same issue.

The medical profession in Alberta secretly liked Klein's cutbacks, it allowed them to replace the word incompetence with cutback 8O

Lily is very much on to something here. Staff have to suck it up and do the job as required. Mistakes happen but we shouldn't be catering to weakness here. It's time to draw the line.
