Ohhh so do they jump around every 3 seconds, not use cover, and shoot wildly with rockets, if they don't just try to stab the enemy instead? And after we kill the enemy...do they teabag the enemy's dead?

Any photos?

And hey, it looks like this tech will help our boys...

Now all we need is Master Chief armour for Gen. Hillier... :P

At this point I must reflect on Alexander's brilliant use of his light infantry at Gaugamela. This was a total surprise for Darius. Used to the sluggish maneuvering of the heavy hoplites, this fast moving formation was pivitol in Alexander's strategy.

Wierd, I was just thinking about America's Land Warrior systems or whatever its called and was wondering when Canada would get something as cool as that. My prayers have been answered :D. Though weight is a issue, some may have to drop a few things in order to carry this. Should make there actions more effective in the battlefield though.

I saw this system at work recently, something tells me it was a Natinal Geographic special on new weaponry and it was a pretty impressive system. Each unit is basically a small laptop seated between the shoulder blades like a thin backpack and in real time ties the soldier to everything that is happening all around him. Everyone knows where everyone one else is and what they are doing in real time. Gamers should love it as well as troops in the field.

Considering an Allied soldier jumped into water on the Normandy coast with between 30 and 60 pounds of gear that offered no protection........I'd say a couple kilos is worth it.

Having done the light infantry thing as well as artillery. There is a vast difference in the size of your kit----if you have a truck to haul it around.

Yes it is nice to have your bed-roll but I have had to leave such things behind to carry demolitions. C4 makes a tolerable pillow. 80 lb packs are ok in flat land regardless of temps----try Laos unladen, just with your weapon and minumum ammo....I have seen some real tough guys lie down and say "shot me".

I find it amazing how for the CF has come in its transformation. When you think we had very little up to date kit 10 years ago and now we are into sytems like this. Loving it.

All I have to say is thank you Paul Martin for being the first Prime Minister in Modern History to increase defense spending, and thank you Stephen Harper for taking that and running with it. Especially with the procurement of some really heavy kit... *cough* C-17 *cough* R=UP

The C-17, IMO, is the most important new capability that the Canadian military has adopted since the jet engine.

Plus I think that Hillier deserves some credit as he has led the way in planning the future look of the CF and changing how we operate.

Anything that can improve the safety and effectiveness of our troops is a good thing. For too many years, we had crap to work with, despite being some of the best trained and most dedicated soldiers in the world.
With all that networked coms running on the battlefield, there will be even more kit for those who wear SigPig's patch to fix :)
