At least the gov is listening to our generals. Under previous gov's the need to close air support and surveillance was outlined but they simply refused to spend the money on the needed equipment.

It will be good to get more helicopters out there but I doubt that they will be only used for the Canadian troops as all air assets are controlled by a central command and are used as needed for whoever needs them.

I thought that is what they said too. Plus didn't they also say that there is enough offensive air power, its more TRANSPORT capability that is needed.

And besides, the Griffon, oh please, a Liberal compromise after dumping the EH101. An unarmoured, essentially unarmed cam painted civilian chopper. And SigPig is also dead on, we need Chinooks!

Oh, and the mini guns they're talking about are outranged by Soviet built Iranian/Pakistani supplied 12.7mm Dshk heavy machine guns that'll go through'em like Stephan Dion and a copy of Das Kapital. More likely they'll be used as taxis for senior brass.

BTW there is a good ol boy, Inverted, who gets just a mite defensive about Griffins.

Yeah there are a lot of DsK's in that neighbourhood but there is something more fearsome-----the soviets mounted it on wheels sized like a motorcycle.

The KPV very heavy machine gun. 600 rd of 14.5x114....a cartridge designed for anti-tank rifles. This crosses the line from small arms into artillery IMHO.

The Dsk is the rough equivalent of the .50 cal M2 Browning.

The KPV is readily movable with a small crew unlike the 23MM cannon.

The KPV can shoot up APCs easily.

However if the KPV uses tracer, it had better connect with the first burst......them mini's can range out far enough to shred the crew of the KPV.

Strellas are the biggest threat.......

That comes from experience dealing with HINDs.

The Soviet deployed KPVs to engage occupied ridgelines. We placed a high priority on their capture. Despite the prodigious range of a KPV, initialy I instituted a SOP of limiting enghagement range to 500m. First burst neutralized the HIND. A KPV would litteraly rip a HIND to pieces despite it's armour.
Mujahideen approved------they liked being up close and personal.
