Jet wash/turbulance is invisible. That's why it referred to as CAT (Clear Air Turbulence) which is a term which applies to many conditions including the "air pockets" (down drafts).

I you recall the sensation of meeting a rig in a cross wind-----just multiply that effect, considering the higher speed and mass of a jumbo.

Basically this in principle this was a small craft encountering the wake of a supertanker doing mach chicken.

It makes a difference because a heavily loaded aircraft has a different angle of attack than a lightly loaded aircraft. Heavily loaded aircraft necessarily create more turbulence because of the higher AOA.

Exactly in somewhat the same manner as an F5 going ballistic rattles windows and an SST smashes them. The heavier the aircraft the bigger the sonic boom.
