If you think the doctors in Winnipeg did not do a good enough job, and you take it to court, using US doctors as second opinion "because they know better", why not have this man treated in the US?

Obviously, in Winnipeg, he is not getting the treatment his family wants him to have...

i have a big issue with keeping people alive with machines.

Now granted if this guy IS showing signs of improving, then by all means keep his old ass on the machine until he is well enough to fend for himself.

but if this guy is just going to die, man, LET HIM DIE!! nuts to religion, nuts to the family...with all due respect, if the man is gunna die, he's gunna die, and prolonging his life through artificial means is cruel and very costly.

The Canadian health care system would save so much money, free up beds, doctors, nurses etc. if they made it easier for people to become DNR, or allow doctor assisted suicide.

Because hospitals are douche bags and won't release patient information to another hospital, nor agree to transport them there. So the people would be taking too large of a risk taking him to the US.

Actually Ontario is in the process of implimenting a province wide information network that medical professionals can access as needed. Our lab is a key member in helping set up the new LIS.

Hospitals before this new LIS did release patient info as needed but for obvious reasons concerning privacy they took reasonable precautions.

No I mean they won't release it to another hospital. My mom wanted to move my Dad to toronto after something went wrong, and they wouldn't release the information, nor transport him. She would have to check him out and drive him there, and he wasn't stable enough.

Under the new LIS the information will be online and available as needed.

That is ridiculous...

He is the patient, shouldn't his family have that info then? And why couldn't they just rent an ambulance with personell? (I know, costly, and not for anybody, but treating your partner in the US wouldn't be free of charge either...)

On the other hand... He is an 84 year old on life support. How old do you want people to be? Someday their time has come, and you should let them go...

Information of the tests they had been doing would not be released, and the tests would have to be re-done.
