we shouldn't be doing this half-assed and getting a small fleet of aircraft. Its just like way back when we had our old Chinooks, we only had a tiny number of them, so their really wasn't much we could do with the fleet as it stood, one of the reasons we sold them off. 16 or 24 would be far more suitable, would be able to accomplish any operation with them then, plus we wouldn't need to use our Hercs so much. One run of this thing can get 4 times the supplies to a forward operating base faster and safer, regardless of whether it is a base in Afghanistan or the arctic.

Not an expert, but I don't know that a C-17 is landing in Alert, any airforce guys confirm deny that?
