The only reason to remove the memorial would be to put a permanent one, but more than likely they did this to make the folks from the religion of Peace happy.

Don’t be silly. The idea that a memorial would be offensive to Muslim community is ridiculous, as is the thought that city council would indulge such a sentiment.

A more likely explanation is:

$1:
'The unofficial memorial to Fusilier Lee Rigby was removed on 17 January following requests from local residents and we are also aware of the fact there is a nearby school whose pupils have to walk past this every morning and every evening.

'We are acting now because the number of items has expanded significantly in recent months and any have been weathered, worn and look unsightly.'

..,official memorials to the murdered soldier would remain, adding: 'There is a memorial plaque in nearby St George's Chapel and a book of remembrance at Woolwich Town Hall, along with an online version.

The council has spoken to Lee's widow and mother ahead of the removal to make them aware, and they are sympathetic. We have also consulted with the Army and Police.

'The items were removed carefully and packed away for the family to collect if they wish.

'The brutal murder of Lee Rigby will be remember by all of us; he remains in our hearts and minds.'

Tommy Robinson half agrees with you Beave.

Except he has a better theory as to why Woolwich council wants to forget.

Stephen Lawrence

was also murdered on the streets of London.

He got a memorial.

He was murdered in 1993. Princess Kate visited the street memorial last Tuesday.

I don't know if she's ever been told to show any interest in Lee Rigby though.

Well, a place that was going to be built anyway was named after him (years after the fact btw). The government didn’t build it especially for him.

And what does it matter anyway?

It doesn't matter.

Why does it matter that people want a memorial for Lee Rigby?

I think Woolwich council wants to dig up the street plaque somebody placed for Lee Rigby, don't they?

Here's the street plaque memorial for Stephen Lawrence.

What? No where on earth did you get that idea from?

They’re clearly just talking about the homemade signs posters and banners people have put up

Looks like this thread is another gaslight-in-progress. CKA should have some kind of warning banners for these things when they pop up.

That's what I was asking you. I thought I'd heard that somewhere. If so where did I hear it, is what I was wondering. [huh]

I think I got the idea by mistakenly putting different stories together. The Rigby memorial opposite the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich where Fusilier Rigby was killed by Islamic terrorists is where the plaque is. Among the reasons claimed for removing the memorial was the supposed worry it would be vandalized like the Stephen Lawrence memorial gets vandalized from time to time. Somehow I put all that together and got the idea they wanted to remove the plaque. I wasn't certain though. That's why I asked.

But no, on closer examination it looks like they're not calling for the removal of the plaque (yet.)

I believe this is what's opposite the barracks where the murder took place.

Might have been refurbished since this pic though.

I think the significance of the spot is what bothers the Woolwich Council.

It's more or less the spot where Rigby was murdered. They don't want to be reminded in a way they can't just look the other way and pretend it didn't happen.
