As per the discussion previously this is why I and apparently the author of this article were vehemently against keeping people in the service who don't follow the Universality of Service requirments.

But your argument is based on facts the governments is based on appearances. They can’t appear fair and kind if they follow facts. It’s not like they really care about the military.

The state of the UK...


Army's drug surrender: Top brass won't sack recruits who use cocaine because they are so short of troops while substance abuse is rife among would-be soldiers, documents reveal

Government sources: Prior to the move, up to 10% of new recruits faced being dismissed from Army after failing drug tests during first 14 weeks of training
Can now stay, whatever substance is found in their system – including heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis
One ex-head of British Army, General the Lord Dannatt: ‘This is a rather sad reflection on our society today’
