Is the UK similar to Canada where a 40%+ support guaruntees a majority?

It's a bold move, I'll grant her that much.

Pretty much, they use fptp like we do. 630 or so ridings.

Right now the Cons have a majority of 12-15.
But the Remoaners have been whining so loud about every aspect of Brexit,
May decided it would be better to have a stronger majority to quel dissent.

Polls see a Tory majority of 50 - 60. One poll last week suggested a 100 seat majority.

Knife in the guts for Labour, this is election is going to be hilarious.

She will need to take a leaf out of Margaret Thatcher's book.

May doesn't want to deal with Brexit so she's hoping her party loses leaving that cluster fuck to some other sucker, smart move.

They're far ahead of Labour in the polls. Jeremy Corbyn and his old Marxists have basically ripped Labour apart and they're going into the election in a total shambles. A big win will give the Tories a mandate to proceed with Brexit and will force the Remainers inside the party to shut up once and for all. This is actually a very cunning move to make right now and if it pays off then it slams the door on the Cameron years forever.

So win or lose May wins because Brexit's not on her.

I disagree.
The numbers have never been better for the Tories.
A strong majority will stop a lot of BS in the House,
even from Tory Remoaners like Anna Soubry and George Osbourne.

It will also stop a lot of BS coming from the Lords, where the Tories
don't have a majority.

It will strengthen her hand in Brussels, where a lot of BS whispering
like 'she's not elected', 'she doesn't have a mandate', 'look at all the opposition',
'we can crush Brexit and force the UK to stay', blah blah.
A lot of that disappears with a strong Tory majority.

If she gets it.

Looks like a lot of Ukippers will vote Tory this time, just to make sure
May gets a good mandate. She has basically taken the Ukip version of Brexit
away from them.

Plus it gives her the chance to destroy Labour for years, before they smarten up
enough to rid of Corbyn by themselves.
And buttblast UKIP.
And piss off the SNP.

It's all win win for the Tories. :)
