Canada should join the EU.
Or maybe you just did because that Investor State Dispute Settlement System allows the Europeans to sue Canada and to overturn Canadian laws that multinational corporations and banks don't like.

NAFTA is plagued with the same bullshit too.
Bart's and Fiddledog's reactions to this really reinforce for me just how much the current model of "free trade" and transferring power to unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats is hated as much by people on the right as it is by people on the left.
Mel Hurtig is most famous for his opposition to these trade deals, and accused of being an anti-American bigot because of it. Eric Kierans and Walter Stewart further noted how anyone opposed to "free trade" could be accused of being a wimp, afraid to compete with the U.S. More generally, anyone who disagrees with the model is seen as small-minded and cowardly.
But Hurtig himself cited how so many U.S. state governors were opposed to the Security and Prosperity Partnership between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. I seem to recall him also writing about the various Minuteman-type right wing groups that were opposed to the SPP as well. And of course, a large chunk of the support that got Donald Trump the keys to the White House was his criticism of these deals, and the transfer of power to unaccountable actors. And now we have the right-wing anger in Europe against CETA and similar deals as well.
So reactions like what Bart and Fiddledog have shown proves just how deep the animosity to these deals is across the political spectrum, and how much potential there is for resistance to them.
