I disagree with Don on so many things, especially as I get older and wiser. I have always respected his unwielding support for the military though, for this he sometimes gets some air time from our TV on Coaches Corner. Generally during Remembrance Day and the like.

He now has shown a second area for which he deserves credit, caring about dogs who are going to be put down. These dogs didn't ask to be placed in the fight ring and I fail to see how at least some of them cannot be rehabilitated. I've seen it on some of the Pet shows on HGTV and other networks. Dogs treated like garbage, as violent as they come and who have even attacked humans, who became pets and life long friends for people.

I realize some may be too far gone, but I fail to see how a blanket belief that they cannot be rehabilitated is the Gospel. I am sure there is a farm somewhere with plenty of room to run and an experienced dog handler who can turn many of these animals around.

They can be. This on Netflix. Have tissues handy.

$1:
Directed and Produced by Founder of FIREFLYFILMWORKS Darcy Dennett, The Champions is an inspirational story about the pit bulls rescued from the brutal fighting ring of former Atlanta Falcon’s star quarterback Michael Vick, and those who risked it all to save them, despite pressure from PETA and The Humane Society to euthanize the dogs. It is a story of second-chances, redemption and hope. This uplifting documentary takes us on a journey about much more than just dogs—about prejudice, being misunderstood, the power of resilience, and the significance of the relationship we as humans have with animals. Featuring the work of Best Friends Animal Society.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
quarterback Michael Vick,

You mean the guy who was convicted of fighting dogs in the first place ?

So, who is he trying to rehab, the dogs... or his public image ?

Public_Domain Public_Domain:
From the description it looks like it's about the dogs rescued from the rings, not Vick himself.

Doesn't sound like that guy is involved in the movie at all.

^^ This. It's about the dogs, not the waste of government rations.

Way too many dogs get put down because way too dogs go through the system and there's not enough demand. As it is, I'd prefer we put efforts into the ones that don't need rehabilitation and get them good homes because we are still putting down good dogs.

Better still would be to put efforts into lowering the number of dogs that go through the system. :(

I've tried to get a rescue pitbull, or most other kinds of dogs through the Edmonton Humane Society. They are usually adopted shortly after their picture goes up on the website. It's like people wait in the parking lot with a tablet, refreshing the website every 5 minutes!

Even the ones labelled 'fear aggressive' get snatched up.

That's the way to lower the number of pets in the system, go get one that's already potty trained and past the chewing on the couch stage. Sister has two dogs she got from a different rescue society, and they are the best dogs ever!
