As much as I appreciate the back yard inventor, I do think that the mecanum design will be the eventual winner in the omni-directional wheel category.

The rolling tube designs look neat (especially on motorcycles), but I question their durability in the real world. Especially in our climate.

Nothing like bringing some rubber from well below zero, to well above zero, than throwing some forces across their natural strength lines, while rapidly decreasing temperatures to well below zero again.

Or, as we like to call it here, driving somewhere in winter.
