$1:
Simliar cases have occurred elsewhere in the Gulf. In 2008, an Australian woman said she was jailed for eight months after reporting she was gang-raped at a hotel in the United Arab Emirates.

In 2013, a Norwegian woman who reported being raped in Dubai received a 16-month sentence for having sex outside of marriage, though she was pardoned and allowed to leave the country.

They don't tell you this until the bottom of the article:

"Simliar cases have occurred elsewhere in the Gulf. In 2008, an Australian woman said she was jailed for eight months after reporting she was gang-raped at a hotel in the United Arab Emirates.

In 2013, a Norwegian woman who reported being raped in Dubai received a 16-month sentence for having sex outside of marriage, though she was pardoned and allowed to leave the country."

I remember those cases. You didn't hear about them until the second woman had already done time for the crime of being raped in a sharia law potentate, then you heard about the other woman.

One of both women's main complaints was they could not get help. Their cases were buried by their governments and the media wouldn't tell the people at home what was happening until it was too late. And even then the story was made obscure.

This woman has the advantage of the brave woman from Australia changing the rules of the game by refusing to shut up.

There's hope. Good luck Dutch lady.

Convicted, of course.

$1:
A court in Qatar has convicted a Dutch woman of having sex outside marriage after she told police she was raped.

The 22-year-old was handed a suspended sentence and fined $824 (£580). She will also be deported.

Her lawyer said her drink had been spiked at a Doha hotel in March and she had woken up in a stranger's flat, where she realised she had been raped.

Her alleged attacker, who said the sex was consensual, was sentenced to 100 lashes for having sex outside marriage.

He will be given a further 40 lashes for consuming alcohol.

The woman has been detained since making the allegation three months ago, but her case only came to light over the weekend when her family decided to go public.

Just remember kids, this is the 'moderate, progressive' Muslim country that has been chosen
for the 2022 World Cup.

And, if you are Muslim and gay, they will kill you for that.
Non muslims, only 7 years in jail.

Oh well, at least she did better than the other poor women who got sucked into believing that part of the world is civilized. No jail time. I hear they're hell-holes.

It does help when the media are shamed into covering the case before the sentence.

Somebody should start a 'Gofundme' to pay the fine for her though.
