He just thought that's how we do things here, after seeing our PMs recent tantrum.

Sounds like we could have used more Vickers in this situation.

I'm sure he would have been up to the task of informing the Ambassador as to what is a perfectly legal question in Canada.

And, he doesn't seem to hesitate.

No he doesn't. Thank God he's ambassador to Ireland, where they have a sense of humor, and not China, that would give us a good spanking.

The problem is that Wang mistakenly believes that the Canadian press is controlled by the government. Muslim countries tend to believe the same thing simply because people who've never experienced even a modicum of actual liberty have precious little understanding of it when they encounter it.

More accurately our government types also try to shield the representatives from the dictatorships from these kind of questions. This wouldn't have happened at a White House press conference for example if Obama did the dual-podium thing with Putin, the Saudi king, or the Turkish PM. The reporters their know their role and have stuck to it for decades. With this one I'm assuming that JT's clods fucked up the mandatory pre-approval of the questions, or the report decided to go rogue.

Most reporters co-operate because they're no different from the hacks in the sports and celebrity media. Go off the reservation with unapproved or pre-packaged questions and they get booted out of the inner circle of access pretty damn quick.

Classic drive-by-andy.

Roll in, lay down a nice skid mark.

The PRC don't care what party is in power in Canada. They will lay the law down as they see fit. If we take their money, we are going to hear a lot more of this kind of thing, which is why we should be careful about the companies we sell.

Fuck the PRC. It's about time we started arming the shit out of the nations around the South Asia Sea so they can blow the fuckers right off of all the islands those bandits are trying to steal!!!

Nope. If they create jobs here, replacing the ones our own financial class keeps stripping away, then we should stay in business with them. There's zero difference to me to working for a Chinese oil company from one in Houston. They're both equally guilty of all sorts of evil crap all over the world and everyone knows it. If the Chinese give me a decent job and the pay is good then I have no problem being a monkey for them. It's all the same to me, with zero guilt over it too.

People are surprised that a representative from a dictatorship doesn't understand the concept of a free press...really?

And that diplomat needs to learn every politician's two favourite words - "No comment."

He wasn't asked to comment. The question was directed at a Canadian politician, Dion, by a Canadian journalist in Canada. The authoritarian asshole chose to interrupt and interject his opinion without being asked. He needs learn four letters, STFU.
