It's been explained. Tranquilizer can take up to 10 minutes to work. Also, in the agitated state the ape was in, the tranquilizer could just serve to hype him up more. The boy was in immediate danger.

A sad story for sure.

A young child falls into the enclosure, which should not have happened to begin with. You can blame the zoo for an inadequate set-up, which of course is a factor but another part of it is an example of why youngsters have to be watched all the time, they move so fast and can get into trouble so easily.

It seems the gorilla became more agitated when people started screaming and freaking out. Typical human response unfortunately. The gorilla responded by trying to take the child away from view of them and of course that was perceived as putting the child in further danger which is why the zoo responded they way they did.

It's a shame.

Agree. It's sad but there was no other way.

New video footage of Harambe shows the 400-pound gorilla HOLDING HANDS with the boy who fell into exhibition moat as zoo director insists they were right to shoot him and the barriers were safe

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3616453/New-video-footage-Harambe-shows-400-pound-gorilla-HOLDING-HANDS-four-year-old-boy-fell-zoo-enclosure-witnesses-say-animal-acting-protectively.html

_______

Harambe was protecting the boy from the screaming parents. Had they remained calm like the parents did when the boy fell into Jambo's enclosure in 1986 there would have been no need to kill Harambe. Maybe it's time to put an end to open enclosures because Gorillas can't be protected in the wild or in captivity. :|

Meh, I doubt fish suffer the way higher mammals do in zoos. Marine mammals should not be captured for aquariums, but where to put the ones that are rescued.

Don't be an idiot. Black Fish are mammals. Read what I said about them. We have a big controversy in Vancouver with our aquarium. They stopped capturing whales long ago, I believe they are not breeding them anymore. But as I say, what to do whit the ones that are rescued. Some can never be released.

Yet another reason to get rid of zoos in favour of wildlife sanctuaries.

Zoos generate revenue that's used to support wildlife sanctuaries. Where's the revenue supposed to come from for the wildelife sancturaries if there are no zoos to support them?

Raise taxes, right? :?:

Right. Exactly how much money do zoos raise for wildlife sanctuaries? You have some links for that?
