Any excuse to run a perpetual deficit.

If they want some recommendations on where there are inefficiencies to be found, I would offer my advise for much cheaper than the consultants that various levels of government have used, with seemingly no impact on the amount of debt we carry at all levels of government.

This isn't going to be like that thread where someone seriously suggested the government cancel multi billion dollar ship building contracts and get fined even more billions in penalties just to go with the "savings " offered by a "discount " shipyard that had nearly gone out of business a few years ago? Hoorah!

Yeah, of course your advice would be cheaper because you haven't any qualifications nor expertise upon which to command any remuneration.

I guess. You could have just as easily asked "just like Wayne Gretzky?" or "just like Bob from the gas station?" if you wanted to throw out a random name that has nothing to do with this at all.

No, he meant as opposed to Harper, who, as we all know, is an economist and has all the qualifications and expertise a man could have. Working in the mail room of Imperial Oil will do that.

But what liar Trudeau is. The old Paul Martin trick of setting expectations low to be able to exceed them. I much prefer the Harper trick of raiding the emergency fund to be able to claim a balanced budget and over estimating expected growth. You know, for sunny ways, Conservative style.

Yet you applauded the Liberals cutting transfer payments, raiding the CPP and military pensions, to the tune of a few billion dollars and calling it "balancing the budget".

Because Liberals.

Well, Harper wasn't a consultant either, nor was Martin, so they're equally irrelevant to the discussion as JT, Gretzky and Bob at the gas station.

Lemmy, I don't need a PhD to know that running a deficit isn't hard. Furthermore, I was in my MBA at one time, so I have a slight understanding of economics.

The fallacy which he is repeated; and I heard it a number of years ago, is that "rates are low, so now is the time to borrow". What isn't being taken into consideration obviously, is our absolute reliance on debt, the fact that the debt is systemic just in order to maintain current service levels, and, taking on debt is best when the economy is booming at a high rate, so that the investment made offers an immediate impact, something we certainly are not experiencing now. Not unlike investing on the margins when you find an undervalued stock to purchase.

The bottom line. For this and the last government in this regard, is that debt has become an addiction in Canada with no end in sight. What I want to see is a law either outright banning running a deficit, or, requiring very specific circumstances bordering on an emergency to boroww. You can be sure that too much of this borrowing is done is to reward cronies for their election support. Similar to what the Liberals of Ontario have been doing for a decade.

Remember when the GST was put into place in order to pay our debt? I remember thinking even as a young man, "this tax won't ever go away, it will be permanent", low and behold here we are 30 years later and we have GST.

Balance the books. It needs to be a mandatory objective of the government. We are putting the nations future in jeopardy. I was willing to given Trudeau some leeway before passing judgement on his suitability as a leader, unless he knocks one out of the park in other areas, this latest budget was a disaster.

I know what the Liberals should do to fix the deficit: RAISE TAXES!!!

Because that fixes everything, right?

He didn't need no stinkin consultants because of his qualifications and expertise. Unlike the drama teacher.

The Cons of course did none of those things.

Once again you attempt to put words in my mouth that I never said and ignore what I really said.

Carry on andy, keep proving with every post that you don't have a clue about anything except what party headquarters tells you to believe.
