There is no inherent character quality specific to Germans, despite the racists who want to make it so. Nor is there anything in their current social organization that would point to the Germans being anymore ruthless than any other Western nation if provoked. Except maybe the idea that they would repress their brutality more than other countries because of history, so if it finally was allowed free reign it might come out pretty harsh.

Get the Americans to back off with their incessant and childish way of looking at the world through rose-coloured glasses, not to mention their hypocritical shit of dropping bombs on terrorists in one place while they're simultaneously selling weapons and providing protection to the Saudis responsible for financing and organizing the entire thing, and the Muslim problem could be solved in short order. Events now seem to be more of a case that instead of good guys this time around we need another evil capable of defeating an even worse evil, kind of like what I think Putin is intent on proving. Line the main road into Raqqa with about ten thousand severed ISIS heads on fenceposts is probably the only thing that might make these bastards consider backing off with their bullshit.

It wasn't the first time, and won't be the last either, that the West (especially the United States) got hoisted on our own petard of hypocritical posturing and a genuinely childish belief in our own myths. No offense to the Yanks in particular, because all the democracies seem equally dumb in this regard, but when a war plan is developed with no consideration at all of future consequences and based far too much in a juvenile fantasy of proving yourselves of being the goodest good guys in the entire history of good-dom then disaster is assuredly going to happen. In hindsight no one with an education higher than that of grade 10 should have believed a single sappy and maudlin word in any of George W. Bush's pedantic war speeches. That such speeches were met with wild approval, and the doofus giving them was polling higher than 90% approval for quite a while, is just an example of how stupid most people can be.

It wasn't just stupidity and gullibility though. The lies that Bush regime and their fox news sycophants told on a near daily basis were busted almost as soon as they came out. It wasn't just the routine selective truth telling or "you have your statistics, I have mine" but BALD-FACED lies that were quickly easily disproved.

Like when Cheney and Rumsfeld declared the troops will be home from Iraq in months if not weeks, and then later denied saying that. I mean, we watched them say it on live TV. We read the op-ed letters in papers where they wrote exactly that. We played and read those back to them on live TV after they denied saying it. And they still just said "I never said it". And their followers never so much as blinked. Once I realized that was the world Americans live in, I knew the country was screwed because no amount of facts will change a Republicans' position on anything, they're a religion, not a political party.

It was a situation where you had to pick the lesser evil rather than the good guy. These guys were also the ones who ensured girls were educated and that women could participate in society. For all their evils, they created some of the most egalitarian, educated, secular and prosperous societies in the Arab world.
