The first point of skepticism with Canada’s new pledge is the selection criteria. According to the government, preference will be given to religious and persecuted minorities. However, this is raising serious concerns that such a selective process would limit Muslim applicants (who comprise the majority of Syrian refugees) a chance to resettle in Canada.
