I had a Dakota from the Hamilton museum fly over about an hour ago. He was headed back to the barn at about 2000 ft. and I could swear that one of his engines misfired.

They are not the sort of thing that you want a lot of hanging around. Those two over Japan, though, probably did save millions of lives ... including Japanese ones and all of the "what if" revisionism three quarters of a century later is so much mental masturbation.

When ever I think about the Japanese and WWII I regret it.
Me mom and dad had many a Japanese friend due in part to their Buddhism was a form of Japanese Buddhism.
I have fond memories of parties and pic niks with Japanese people.

I recall back in the seventies some who lived through the war, said they thought Hiroshima was some sort of trick and that is the reason for Nagasaki to prove it was real. They would never have believed a demonstration.

I regret thinking about the war due to the brutality of Japanese army towards prisoners of war. It clashes with my fondness for these people.

I will never understand how governments like Germany have the nerve to rearm and be part of anything military .

The Germans were pushed into rearmament during the Cold War as there was a very real and very large threat in the form of thecRed Army just across the Elbe. The Warsaw Pact was not formulated as a defensive organization, relying heavily on massive amounts of very mobile armoured infantry to hold their side of the line. The Germans needed to defend Germany.

The Germany of today is not a military colossus and the German people seem to be quite naturally ambivalent about their military ... as are the Japanese.

Japan, BTW is re-arming right now as they feel threatened by the resurgent China. They are even building carriers again, called "large destroyers"
