Can we say the accident was caused by pilot error, even though the pilot wasn't actually in the plane?

Yup. You'd think he'd know how to start it and get in since he's had the plane of 6 years.

I know of a guy who walked into a propeller on HMCS Bonaventure and left a lot of fatherless children behind.
