Yup. They also closed their Australian plant, and expanded the Taiwan plant.

I used to like Bran Flakes. :( But since the sugar content has been going up for years on end, I just make my own breakfast's.

Oats* or beans on toast in winter, high protein smoothies or fruit and yoghurt in summer. [drool]

* I think it was Unsound(?) who turned me on to making a slow cooker full on the weekend, then just microwaving it during the week. Super helpful!

Yes. You can only screw up steam cooking grains so much. It's not like processed/cured meats, where poor cleanliness leads to nasty bacteria.

It's the sugar I avoid, so no matter where it's made, I avoid it. ;)

It's the added melamine and god-knows-what-else is substituted in cultures that believe corruption is normal and healthy, that has me concerned about buying food from Asia. (I trust the Japanese and Singapore, though.)

During the summer I eat a lot of yogurt with homemade granola. Winter - gonna have to peruse my recipe books over the holidays. :)

Just don't switch to the full English Breakfast unless you are in a hurry to join Venerable Ancestors.

Cat and Dog treats, and baby formula from China aren't the same as cereal. The guys who put melamine in food were executed for it. That tends to send a strong message to anyone else looking to get 'cute' for a little quick profit.

Kelloggs is a pretty big company, and killing customers isn't the best way to get repeat business, so they aren't going to let that kind of thing go on in their plant.

I also like 'Silk', with Muselix, or with oatmeal soaked in the fridge overnight. A nice thing on hot mornings!

That looks like Sunday breakfast at the Caleb household! [drool] Needs more Wiltshire Rashers though. :)

I wonder how much of the grain going into Chinese cereal comes from Canada? I know that historically, they've bought a lot of barley from us. That would be the ultimate irony: Canada, the Third World raw resource provider and China, the source of all of our finished, value added goods. I wonder if we'll end up getting paid as the Africans are for their agricultural output in a few generations?

Probably not. But how well do they check the raw materials they buy that go into their products? What is the culture of the plant - ie corruption, quality control, etc?
