To bad it was in India and not here because our current method of dealing with this type of scum isn't nearly as effective.

Sad but true.

It sure sets one hell of an example in a country like India where this type of shit happens regularly (rape of women without punishment for the crime).

Bless the folks who took the matter into their own hands. Justice was done. May the asshole suffer. He certainly will never put an innocent woman in that position again.

Best way to solve the problem.

Savagely attacking and castrating a suspect without a trial may quench your bloodthirst, but it is really not the answer to anything in a civilized society.

Judging by responses to situations like this, who says we're a civilized society? Very thin veneer over the bloodlust.

Journalist: What do you think of Western civilization?
Gandhi: I think it would be a good idea.

There allegedly were a bunch of witnesses who caught him in the act of course. I'm sure he was just asking her for directions.

$1:
heard the girl’s screams.

Finding him down an alley and pinning the terrified girl against a wall

He wasn't a suspect, he was caught in the act of trying to force himself on her. Considering this happened in India, a country where the police have a history of taking rape even less seriously than they do here, someone needs to take matters into their own hands.

Over here in "civilization", he would have been found not guilty since the crowd prevented him from actually carrying out the act. At worst he would have been convicted of a misdemeanor.
In fact I know of a case here where a man was charged with sexual assault but without full-on rape occurring. Both the Crown and Defense recommended a $1000 fine and time served. Generally the judge will agree with the recommendation and justice is far from served. In the case to which I was referring, thank God the judge had a great idea of what justice is. He put on a pretty good show in the process too 8)

Maybe people are just fed up with watching their family members abused and nothing happening.

Oh wait. This could be one of the reasons they took matters into their own hands.

$1:
Many Indian Legislators Face Rape Charges

Indian authorities may have promised harsher punishments for rapists. But they could start by looking at politicians themselves.

According to the Association for Democratic Reforms, a nonprofit organization, authorities have charged at least six members of India’s state legislatures with rape and 36 other local politicians for crimes against women including sexual abuse and assault. Two members of India’s national Parliament also have been charged for sexual abuse and assault, the association says.

Jagdeep Chhokar, a retired professor and a founder of the body, said the number of politicians in India’s 552-member national lower house of Parliament who are facing criminal charges, including rape, has increased by a third since 2009 to 162 lawmakers.

“The trend indicates that political parties believe that winning the elections is the only thing that matters. How the election is won seems to be immaterial,” Mr Chhokar said.

B.G Verghese, an independent political analyst and newspaper columnist, said the public and political outrage at the gang rape of a 23-year-old student who died Saturday rings hollow as long as parties continue to allow alleged rapists to represent them.

The Election Commission of India, the country’s election watchdog, does not have the power to reject the candidatures of politicians facing criminal charges. In many cases the trials of those charged with crimes take years to begin, and when they do, can often drag on for decades.

Mr. Chhokar said, the election commission should be empowered to block those facing criminal charges from taking part in polls until their names are cleared. “All of them must stand up to stricter scrutiny,” he said.

Mr Chhokar said India’s police often is wary of taking action against an accused if that person belongs to a political party. “You never know whether that person will be elected and come to power as a legislator.”

So if the people who are supposed to be taking action against the animals, are the animals, is it any wonder that the people are going vigilante on the evil doers?

Inherent flaws with a judicial system may be a call to action or cause for change but not if it means regression into some kind of barbaric state where mob rule prevails. In my mind, the attackers in this case are no less dangerous than the rapist.
I completely understand the outrage, but regardless of what circumstances surround the crime, and no matter how bad it looks, the accused still has a right to a trial. Anyone who advocates otherwise was born in the wrong century.

Honestly hope you are joking.

Is the goal to get to a place where a simple accusation gets you castrated? No one else sees a problem with that?

Huge misunderstandings sometimes occur. Hasn't anyone seen Three's Company ? :D
