"It's been six years that I've lived around here, and the police are always walking around, asking people for their identification. I think the citizens have had enough of that."
Just wanted to highlight that even in Canada, we hear "Papers Please!". And some people are scared enough to comply.
I had a freaky incident with the cops many years ago. I was on my way to Belle River to visit some friends when a cruiser pulled me over in the little village of Russell Woods. I thought it was odd because A)Russell Woods has no police force except for the OPP, B)It wasn't an OPP cruiser and C)Some greasy looking dude wearing a wife beater was sitting in the front passenger seat of the cruiser.
When the "cop" approached my window I saw he was wearing a Windsor Police uniform so when he asked for my license and registration I asked him why I was being pulled over. He didn't answer and simply asked for my license and registration again.
At that point I told him he was way out of his jurisdiction and if he wants to see my license and registration be better radio the OPP to pull me over. That's when I put my car in gear and floored it out of there.
He didn't give chase and I never saw an OPP cruiser the rest of my way to Belle River. To this day I still wonder if he was a real cop.
