This is probably the only way for people to get the message.

They just better not get it while driving.

It's also going to rake in revenue for the Province so look for the cops to abuse the sh*t out of this before the law is even a month old.

I don't have a problem with this one bit, fines don't seem to get the message across. Even demerits haven't shifted attitudes all that much in provinces that hand them out for distracted driving.

I wonder if the better seizure would be of the offender's phone though - 7 days without that might teach them a better lesson.

Not a bad idea. Make an arrangement with the cell companies to suspend the offender's service for 30 days, and then 60/90/120/etc days for repeat violations. Leave them their vehicles so they can keep driving to get to work, etc, but the mental agony of no service for some people would actually be a massively painful punishment.

Abuse? Well, I guess the only way to stop those dirty bastards is to quit texting while driving, eh?

At the risk of them saving God knows how many lives, accidents from happening, pedestrians being run over, I'm okay with them "abusing" it.

I think it's great too. I just about got hit crossing the street the other day because some f***ing airhead was too busy yapping on her phone to realize she was pulling up to a stop sign. When she realized I was 4 feet in front of her car and slammed on her breaks, I looked her right in the eye and hollered (her window was open), "You might want to put the FUCKING PHONE DOWN DIPSHIT!!!!"

This video shows why texting and driving is dangerous, of course the CRTC doesn't have the stomach to show this on Canadian television.

Now that's one hell of a good idea. R=UP

Not only would it render the miscreant completely comatose, it would also be great watching these self centered twits drive around town with 10 kilometers of telephone wire trailing from their SUV just so they could function. :P

It's not realistic that they wont use a phone, they could easily use their kids phone or get a $20 pay as you go card and put their monthly plan on vacation so it would save them the difference, as long as they have a substitute phone. There are just too many ways around it if you have cash, so you might as well make it monetary to begin with. Plus what if they are real estate agents or another occupation that relies heavily on their phone? Then it is more severe for some than others. I know you could say the same thing about drinking and driving and say delivery people but I see drinking and driving as a more serious offence.

I think taking the phone for a week is the best solution. People have second vehicles but no one has a second phone with the same number.
