Don't buy food from China. They're not exactly picky about what they put in food be it for export or for domestic use.

The problem is that even if it says made in Canada, or some other reputable country, doesn't mean it doesn't have any ingredients from China in it. We're determined to sink ourselves, send them our resources and jobs, buy back poison and slave labor produced goods. We can say we're pure about our environmental record (which we're not) but if you take into account all the Chines crap we buy, we're looking a lot worse.

This is heartbreaking but I don't believe it's the treats. There are far to many small dogs my two Chihuahua's included that get these treats daily and have never suffered any health issues from them.

My guess is that the dog got into something else or had an outstanding health issue which because of the previous scare about this product it automatically became the Vitalife's fault by default, again.

So, unless this Vet can definitively do what no one else could and tie the jerky treats to the death of this dog and the dogs previously she should STFU and stop scaremongering because given that other outlets sell the same products all the accusations against Costco are doing is making it look like one vet's got more of a hate on for Costco than any concern for the dogs.

She'd be better served taking the leftover duck jerky treats to a reputable lab and having them analysed for toxicity levels before making statements that are so inflammatory which makes me wonder why this hasn't been done in this case.

Given how often "burgers purchased from Costco" end up being mentioned in e-coli scares then it should be much of a surprise if they eventually end up selling something that would sicken, or even kill, dogs & cats. You get what you pay for and if your primary interest is saving a few bucks then what you pay for too often turns out to be kinda awful in quality.

Cost doesn't matter, because Maple Leaf Foods poisoned half of Canada and not everybody bought that meat at Costco to save a buck.

Reminds me of a case of a Chinese toy producer. They toys were testing positive for large amounts of lead being used in them. They were told to remove the lead from the toys.

Next round of tests, large amount of cadmium were being used in the toys which wasn't found in prior test.

They had removed the lead and replaced it with cadmium.

Maple Leaf's failures don't exonerate Costco if the cheapness of their supply chain leads them to but things from places with a well-proven reputation of deliberately poisoning animals (and people too, BTW) just so they can have an inexpensive item on their shelves. Seriously, food items from China? Everyone involved should give their head a good shake.

They don't exonerate Costco but they do point out that they aren't the only ones with issues and those issues weren't caused by buying from the Chinese. So, before we start attacking one Company for buying Chinese we should be looking at why our own food producers aren't doing much better despite the fact that we supposedly have much more stringent health and safety parameters.

Costco may not have the best record of food safety but until someone can prove the duck jerky caused this and the other dogs deaths it just comes across as another excuse for haters to rail against big business.
