Then local artists, submit an exhibit, noting what these people have done. After all art is art, right???

Here's part of the exhibit, I don't really see how it glorifes terrorism.

Can't work that way. But they could put up an information sign about who these people are.

All I see is that the artist, Rehab Nazzal is Palestinian. He's allowed to have a perspective and we are allowed to interpret it.

Just like this prominent Jewish artist Boaz Arad who depicts Hitler is.

This is called Hearthrug and was displayed in Prague exhibit called "decadence now".

No one should have a monopoly on perspective and Nazzal is certainly within his rights of freedom of expression.

Art is allowed to be thought provoking and controversial. Even if it is about Mohammed, terrorists, God, Sex. etc.

I'm not for glorifying terrorists, if that is what's happening here. I don't like it when our local Sikhs have pics of their "martyrs" on their floats and our premier and other official are there waving and smiling and endorsing it all.

I don't know who would be offended by that Hitler rug - the local skinheads? Nazzal can have his perspective. But to display it in an official site shouldn't be on. Display it at an art gallery.

Come on Andy, there is zero limit to the glorification of murder, selling crack, pornography, slappin hoes, war and every other manner of human depravity in western media, from Natural born killers to pulp fiction, to every gangster rap song there is, but this guy has crossed a line ?

It's art FFS.

Yes. But not at city hall. That implies an official endorsement. Also, this is not fiction.

I don't see how when it is explicitly stated otherwise:

$1:
A sign on the door to the gallery says the "artwork, themes, points of view or comments...do not represent those of the City of Ottawa." A sticker with the same message is found on the back page of the exhibit booklet.

Also, with regards to western fiction, the rap is not about fiction, stories about Al Capone, Ted bundy, Wars, Charles Manson, Paul Bernardo, objectification of woman, selling crack are not fiction and all are captured in western media.

Do you really want the government hand picking the art you can look at ? Trotsky style ?

Yes, in this case. I don't want it officially endorsed. Art at city hall is different than art at a gallery. to me the sign is not enough. At the least let the Jewish council set up an information booth or something.

You have to admit though that it is pretty rich that the ambassador of Israel is over here trying to have Palestinian artists boycotted when their country imposes strict fines for anyone who calls for a boycott of anything Isreali, also denying them employment, subjecting them to liability without having to prove damages and barring them from government tenders.

Does that sit right with you?

Whatever. In this case i agree with the ambassador, only because it's in a govt building, which would seem to confer govt approval on it. The wider question we can go on and on about. I think Israel is in the wrong on a lot of issues. As are the Palestinians. I just don't want people who apparently were involved in terrorism given the patina of official approval.

Not much of an art critic but if people are upset by it I guess that means it's working?

Of course you wouldn't.
After all, they are just photos of people, right ?

All those terrorists were people too, right ?

It's ok to show these scum as people because most Canadians are too dumb
to know who they are looking at, right.

They didn't do nothing wrong, the jooooo$ made them do it, right ?

Here's an example of your in-depth knowledge...

The 'artist' is a woman, you idiot.

It's a unisex name and has no relevance to the conversation. But if it makes you feel good to try to put people down feel free. Did you have a bad day or something? Want to talk about it?
