I'm nowhere near wealthy, but I, by myself, have greater wealth than tens of millions of Americans combined, because they're all in debt and I'm not.

It's calculated on total assets. Saw it in another article, but no one would believe it if it came from the Communist Broadcasting Corporation.

The big statistic I saw was exactly as you describe. The top 86 families in Canada have more combined wealth than the lowest 1/3 of Canadians, mostly because the bottom 10 million have more debt than assets.
